Painting X90 Siding

Assuming the X90 is in good condition, it can be painted successfully by following the steps below.
Make sure you have all of the materials you need first:
Pressure washer – optional
Detergent tape tarps to shield from splatter
Wire brush, scrapers
Peel Stop primer
Exterior oil-based primer
Any brand exterior 100% acrylic paint
Brushes and rollers
Clean:
Normally you would want to pressure wash this type of siding to obtain a clean surface. However, this type of siding sometimes experiences moisture-related failures due to product or installation defects or improper maintenance. You can try using a general purpose cleaner such as TSP. If you need to pressure wash due to excessive dirt, your local home improvement store will have one with a compatible detergent available. If you pressure wash, first prepare the area around the wall that you’re washing. Cover surrounding plants, tape up or cover nearby electrical plugs and close all windows and doors. Thoroughly clean the entire surface area and let dry. Make sure the siding is completely dry before attempting any primer.
Prep surface:
After surface is dry, scrape off loose paint using a wire brush where necessary. Take your time with this step. Two thirds of a good paint job is the preparation put into it. Removing all chips of paint and any foreign substance will provide a smooth surface and therefore a greater adhesion of the primer.
Prime the surface:
Prime the entire siding. Unless the siding is in excellent condition, plan on priming twice. First use Peel Stop. It promotes adhesion of old paint coatings. Peel Stop is a clear, flexible bridging sealer for surfaces where peeling, flaking, dusting or chalking is a problem, such as this type of siding. Follow the manufacturer’s directions. It is an easy-to-use sealer and may be top-coated after two hours. It can be applied with a brush or roller and cleans up quickly and easily with soap and water. After the Peel Stop is dry, use an exterior oil-based primer. Any brand will do at this point—the Peel Stop will have done most of the work, and if your siding was in pretty good shape, you may only need the one coat of Peel Stop.
Paint the surface:
Apply two coats of exterior 100% acrylic paint with the first coat back-rolled to seal the siding edges. You can spray on the second coat if you desire. This will give the best results. You can use a brush or rollers or spray. Acrylic paint tends to leave brush strokes more than oil-based paints, so you might want to keep that in mind. As long as the primer was applied correctly on a clean, dry surface, even siding in mediocre condition will now last two or three years, saving a lot of money on replacement siding.
