Cost of Siding Your House

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It is somewhat difficult to determine the exact cost of siding a house, as it depends on the size as well as the material. There is siding that is cheaper and siding that is far more expensive. Also, it depends on who does the siding or if it will be a do-it-yourself project. All of these options will be briefly covered.

The different types of siding depend on the location of the house in regards to weather conditions as well as which siding is within your budget. The two most popular types of siding are vinyl siding and cedar siding. Vinyl siding is far cheaper than the traditional cedar siding, as it doesn’t have the natural look, however, it is much easier to install (so it can be installed as a do-it-yourself project) and protects just as well. The maintenance of vinyl siding isn’t as expensive or necessary as that of cedar siding. Cedar siding, unlike the vinyl siding, has more options as to how you can install it, whether horizontal, vertical, or in shingles; however, the maintenance takes more time and is more expensive. Also, you must keep water away from it and protect it from direct water sprays such as sprinklers or gutters that drip too close to the house.

Once you have decided which siding you would like, you are ready for the next step. There are a couple of other types of siding available that are not as popular as the two above. The installation is very important, and if you choose the vinyl siding you may choose to install it by yourself, but taking into account the money saved in purchasing vinyl siding, it might be a good idea to use that money to have someone install it, as it will be much faster and done professionally. The wood siding is a bit more difficult to install and a professional may be needed. The prices vary depending on the contractor.

Overall, prior to jumping in and buying siding, review the points above, measure the size of the house, and see what you are capable of doing yourself to avoid paying extra cash for something you are capable of doing. It is also important to choose the right material that’s best for the weather conditions as well as your budget.
