Spring is on its way, and with it comes time for home improvement. You want to use your do-it-yourself dollars well, and there are three major areas that add value to homes when you renovate.
The kitchen is the heart of the home and it is one of the first places for home improvement. Upgrading your appliances, including the oven, dishwasher, and refrigerator, will immediately update the look of your home. Get ride of the old avocado green dishwasher and invest in a sleek, new model, and be sure to look for energy effect models that can save you hundreds of dollars a year. Doing a few quick, easy changes like staining your cabinets and buying new curtains can also make your kitchen shine. For bigger projects consider granite countertops, which are resistant to heat and make an elegant impression.
Bathrooms are another place where improvements will add value to your home. You should make certain that everything works. Is your faucet dripping? Now is the time for an easy replacement with an attractive new faucet. Is your porcelain sink chipped? There are kits that can repair simple chips and scratches in porcelain that are very inexpensive. How long have you had your shower curtain? Throw it out and buy a bright new one. Do you need to replace your medicine cabinet? This is an easy job that you can do over the weekend. Bathrooms are such an important room in the home in terms of personality and cleanliness so take a good look and see what changes you need to make.
The last area in which renovations will add value to your home is the appearance of your house from the street. Is your lawn attractive and green? Is your house paint faded or uneven? Is your porch sagging? Do you have an attractive flowerbed? The front of your house is the first thing a person sees when he approaches. Make sure to give a great first impression. For very little money, you can add flowers, add shutters, or purchase new lawn chairs. Go outside and take a look at your home. Do you like what you see? Spring is the time for landscaping your lawn, adding an ornamental fence, or updating your patio furniture.
In reality, any home improvement will add value, but by focusing on these three areas, you will make the most of your home improvement money. A few moments with a decorator, plumber, or landscaper might make the difference in a small task and a big problem down the road. Home renovation will certainly add value to your home, so plan out a few weekend tasks and watch your home value soar.
